for my site redesign for a company i chose christian louboutin. i don’t know why exactly… probably because i can only dream about owning my own pair of his shoes right now. i had a lot of fun with this project, went through A LOT of different drafts and my final design looks nothing like how it did in the beginning.

hat in the cat
a project from design class last semester was to redesign a video game box. i had no idea what game to do so when aj went to the store i just told him to buy whatever was cheap and on sale. i ended up with the cat in the hat.

i went for an updated and fresher cat in the hat look, if that makes any sense. i stayed within the blues and reds but i also my own font for the title. i have the actual box built and made but i is crushed in the trunk of my car somewhere right now. otherwise, i would’ve taken a picture of it cuz it took me 5 hours to glue together..

Dating Website Analysis
The Bad
Okcupid.com is a social dating website where single males and females can network and meet each other. The home page of this website does not hit the target audience. It looks like a female teen magazine website. The logo is very girly looking and at the home page I’m greeted with an illustration of a female. The intended audience for the site is single young-adult to adult males and females. However, if I were a straight male going on this site, I wouldn’t stay on it for too long because it looks like it’s directed towards a more female audience. As I navigate throughout the pages, they do all relate to each other with the color and font. There are all working links and a copyright notice at the bottom of the home page. The Good
eharmony.com is social dating and networking website for single males and females. This site hits the target market because of the photos and font choice used on the home page. The large picture of a happy smiling couple on the home page first caught my eye. On the photo it also has the caption “matched by eharmony.” The intended audience for this site is single young-adult to adult males and females. There is a consistency throughout the website, all the links work and there is also a copyright notice at the bottom of the page. The website is clear, simple, and easy to navigate.

Sports Website Analysis
The Good

Transworld is a sports entertainment website that is directed towards teenagers-young adults. The purpose is to inform readers about what’s happening in the skate/surf/snow world. The layout of the home page is very bold and clear which is what first caught my eye. The font size is easy to read and I also like the colors of the background, which is just grey and black. This allows the content on the home page to stand out. As I navigate throughout the site all the other pages relate back to the main page. The font and font size all stay the same, but the font sizes of the titles of each page are slightly bigger. The website does not appear to look to cluttered since they used a font size that is a little bigger than normal and also kept the pictures small size consistent. There is a copyright notice at the bottom of the home page. However, I couldn’t find contact information but that might also require me to login.
The Bad
ESPN is a sports entertainment website that is directed towards young adults-adults. The site has the most recent news and headlines about the sports world. The home page is overwhelming. Right when I first clicked open the site I am bombarded with text, text and more text. The font is also small and hard to read and is doesn’t change so I it’s hard to tell what I’m reading. The home page features ‘headlines’ right next to ‘top stories’ which conflict each other in my opinion. As I navigate throughout out the pages they all have the exact same layout as the home page, and isn’t very interesting. Still full of small hard to read text. The links are mostly white and turn grey when clicked on. Each page is features pop-up ads and videos. There is, however, a copyright at the bottom of each page and contact information.

another sunday night.
basically sunday nights of this semester consists of type design and vis comm hw. i like to procrastinate. so i usually don’t start my work until around 12am. and on days when we need stuff printed out at kinko’s i usually don’t go until an hour before class. so obviously i should be starting/finishing up hw right now, but i’m not. instead im posting an entry with a perfect picture of what we do in class every monday and wednesday for 6 hours.
kyrstin, aj, and i all sit in a row right next to each other.. we, and the rest of our class, are usually on ichat but occassionaly we get crazy and do.. video chat! hah, not really. but sometimes we do get that bored it’s ridiculous. and of course, we do have a shitload of work we should be doing. instead we’re watcing tv and movies on hulu.
want to see a picture of our teacher renee that we live with for 6 hours twice a week in room LA51something?
we’re the best students any teacher could ever ask for .

so every thursday for the past 2 months elisa and i would make it a weekly ritual to grab a bit to eat at belmont grill on 2nd street. i got out of class last night and i was dead tired and ready to go home and right when i hopped on the freeway i get a call from elisa asking where i was at.. going home of course.. but once she mentioned diner at belmont grill i exited 7th and was sold.
she’s been going there for like a million years since she used to work at the bike shop a couple stores down. but seriously, this place is sooo booombbbb. the portions are huge too and the prices are cheap! we seroiusly only spend like 4/5$ each time we go there.. and we usually feel gluttenous by the time we’re done. i usually get the cheeseburger or grilled cheese with tomatoes and onions. but since i gave up meat for lent i got the veggie burger which was still really good.. but it’s not the same as some nice red meat. they also give you large portions of hummus which we usually end up taking home and the owner hooks it up with some fried zucchini which usually disappears within 5 minutes of appearing on our table.
we then usually proceed to walk off some food by going down 2nd. the first stop is at the candy store where they have ALL the candy that you used to eat when you were a kid and more. we usually spend about a min. of 1 hour in there.. wanting to buy everything in there and then just walking out with 25cent lollipops.
another stop that you have to make there is at fingerprints. this discount cd store that has everyything.
there’s a stand outside that has cd’s and dvd’s for a buck!! last night we bought the 98 degrees, unwritten law, and pearl jam cd’s. we’re taking it way back.
ps. walking around on a thursday night is the best to check out guys since theyre all either out at shannon’s or legends. oh, and the firestation is right across the street from belmont grill so if you’re lucky you’ll see some in uniform.
and if you wana be really cute.. take a drive or run down ocean in the morning (usually its a hungover stupor) it’ll put anyone into a good mood.
